Winter's End has survived the first round of online voting on WWW.FYLMZ.COM to be listed as 1 of 20 semi-finalists in the competition. A panel of judges will now select a number of finalists to screen in Nashville from 8th February. That selection will be made known on 25th of this month. Quite possibly hundreds of films were entered into this competition, so the filmmakers are delighted to have progressed this far. They would also like to say thanks to the many people who voted online and wish their fellow competitors good luck.
NOVEMBER 2006
Winter's End is again competing in a film festival this time in Nashville Tennessee. So far 58 feature films are in the running and the first round will be decided online. Each fIlm has a trailer on WWW.FYLMZ.COM where visitors are invited to view and then rate the trailer. The whole process is very simple and should take about 5 minutes. Once again the producers would be grateful for your votes.

The first Temple Bar Film Festival kicks off next week and Winter's End is scheduled to screen in Film Base, Curved Street at 6:00pm on Wednesday 7th June. Admission is reasonably priced and the festival is designed to promote the work of low budget filmmakers, so hope to see you there.

Another selection for Winter's End, this time it's The San Francisco Irish Film Festival. Thanks Niall for your kind words on the film and we look forward to our screening in SF. As mentioned before, Winter's End already has a sales agent for North America and we are now very happy to be signed with Cine International for worldwide sales. We look forward to a fruitful and lasting relationship with our friends in Munich. In both of the above deals we have omitted Ireland from the contracts which means for the first time you can now buy a DVD of Winter's End from this website (see the link on the home page). However, you can only buy these DVD's from within the Republic of Ireland. As mentioned last month, you can now view the film online at CINEQUEST.
JANUARY 2006
Winter's End
has been selected to screen in the Cinequest
Online Viewer's Voice from 1st to 28th
February. Cinequest is a San Jose, California
based film festival rated among the top
10 festivals in the world. The way it works
is between the above dates, you can download
and view an encrypted version of the movie
to view on your PC. You then rate the film
and the ratings will decide which film
will go forward to screen in a bricks and
mortar theatre in San Jose in March this
year. The producers of Winter's End are
very excited about this particular festival
as they believe it points the way for future
film distribution, both studio and independent.
We hope that all our friends and fans will
support the festival by going online, voting
for us and other fine films we're privilaged
to screen against.

DECEMBER 2005
The Hollywood DV Festival took place from 7th to 11th December in Hollywood, Los Angeles. Winter's End received Best Picture Award. Pat and his wife Carol, cast member Donie Ryan and a friend Majella, flew to LA for the event and celebrated late into the night in The Continental Club on Wilshire Blvd.
NOVEMBER 2005
The Hollywood DV Festival has selected Winter's End to screen in Los Angeles at it's prestigious event on December 8th. This is a festival which is dedicated to the work of filmmakers who make great films and who choose to shoot digital. As they say themselves, it's all about the content. The filmmakers are looking forward to the event and the opportunity to meet industry professionals.
OCTOBER 2005
Winter's End battled against the biggest and the best of Irish Film at Saturday Night's 2005 Irish Film and Television Awards in the RDS, Dublin to scoop an IFTA for Best Music in a Feature Film. The film was recognised by the Industry in September having been nominated for two IFTAs - Best Actress (Jillian Bradbury) and Best Music in a Feature Film (Gregory Magee). Despite losing out to Renee Weldon, Jillian was delighted to be nominated for this highly coveted IFTA especially considering it was her first role in a feature length movie. Jillian trained in the Gaiety School of Acting and won the Gate Theatre Award in 2001. She is currently attending a degree course at R.A.D.A. in London. Gregory Magee, who composed the winning score, is a highly respected film composer who studied at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin and subsequently went on to train under the supervision of Disney composers Mark Watters and John Graham. Magee was approached by the makers of “Winter's End” who were determined to find the best talent available despite very limited resources. The result is an award winning score which highly impressed the international Panel of Judges (including Conrad Pope arranger, orchestrator and conductor - Star Wars and the Harry Potter Series) and a major coup for this low budget thriller. Winter's End had it's first screening in the Kilkenny Cineplex in June of this year. Plans are afoot to screen the film once again in Kilkenny as a charity benefit. Details will be announced soon. The producers are presently in negotiation to secure National and International distribution of their project.
SEPTEMBER 2005
Winter's End has been nominated for awards in two catagories by the Irish Film and Television Awards. The catagories are Best Actress for Jillian Bradbury and Best Music for Gregory Magee. The producers are delighted with the nominations and are very proud of their low budget film and all who worked tirelessly on it. The awards will be screened live by RTE1 from the RDS in Ballsbridge on 5th November this year at 9:30pm.
AUGUST 2005
The producers of Winter's End have negotiated and signed a deal with an LA based Sales Agent to represent the film in the North American territory. Damien and Patrick are very pleased with this and will pursue further deals in other territories.
JULY 2005
Winter's End had it's official Irish premier at the Galway Film Fleadh on Sunday 10th July in the Town Hall Theatre. The screening was received very well and prompted an engaging Q and A session with writer/director Patrick Kenny. Audience members found the premise of the story fresh and intriguing and appeared genuinely entertained for an hour and 40 minutes. There was surprise and interest in the fact that the low budget flick was shot on miniDV and that €20,000 took the film from script to first assembly edit. Quiet a few people believed the film to have been shot on 16mm film. The filmmakers are quiet pleased about that as they gave a lot of care and attention to the look of Winter's End. They believed that although the film was low budget, it didn't have to look it. They made full use of the amazing yet affordable tools available to low budget filmmakers such as After Effects and Magic Bullet.
JUNE 2005
The first screening of Winter's End took place in the Cineplex, Kilkenny before an audience of 300 friends and supporters on Thursday 9th July. There were great reactions to the film and the producers were very encouraged by this. After the screening Damien and Patrick hosted a celebration in the Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel well into the early hours. The following week the Kilkenny People carried a very favourable review written by weekly columnist Gerry Moran. He described the film as "Excellent".
MAY 2005
Winter's End will test screen sometime towards the end of this month or the beginning of June. Hopefully this will only highlight small problems if any, that can be easily fixed.
APRIL 2005
I know, still no trailer but we're close. It's probably the same with every film, no matter how much time you have, once a deadline is set you always run out of it. Our delivery date with IFB was 11th April and we were still fine tuning the sound 1 hour before delivery. With only days to spare before the closing date for entries to the Galway Film Fleadh we made our application. Just before the end of the month we got the good news that Winter's End has been accepted into the New Irish Feature section.
FEBRUARY 2005
We have been invited to submit Winter's End for consideration by The Times BFI London Film Festival which takes place in October. We're pretty excited about that. This has probably come about because of our listing in BSE/The Irish Film Board production catalogue for 2005. The Irish Film Board provided completion funding for Winter's End and have been very supportive. Once the film is completed, they will provide a test screening process to fine tune the edit. We look forward to working with them to fully exploit the potential of Winter's End. Check back with us soon as we aim to have the trailer up before the end of February.
JANUARY 2005
The premiere date we were hoping for was not achieved, more due to over optimism on our part than anything else. However, most of the work is done at this stage. The music has been composed and recorded. A deal has been struck with Reelgood in Dublin to work on the sound design and mixing. Here in Kilkenny we are finalising the look of the film with the help of ® Magic Bullet. The online work is being carried out on a Media 100 844/X system by Kevin Hughes in Wallslough Studios Kilkenny. The original offline work and first assembly was cut on ® Adobe Premiere. Right now I will resist the temptation to nail down a new Kilkenny Premiere date which will really be for cast crew and supprters, suffice it to say it doesn't look likely to happen this side of the middle of March but we'll keep you updated on that.
DECEMBER 2004
Picture lock has been achieved so now our editor is splitting the audio tracks in prep for sound post. Music has been composed and recorded by Greg Magee and the actors have been notified of ADR work to take place in early January. Meanwhile, light matching of shots is taking place before ® Magic Bullet and a look suite is applied. We have targeted Saturday 29th January 2005 as the date we aim to launch the premiere. This will depend on many streams of work culminating successfully at least a week before this. We'll let you know in next months bulletin if this will be achieved.
